If you were to stumble upon a vast, ancient library filled with books written in a language you did not recognize, you would certainly marvel at the craftsmanship of the bindings and the intricate calligraphy on the pages. You might sense that the library contains great wisdom, but without a translator or a teacher, the true meaning of the texts would remain locked away. You would be left only with your own guesses, which might be wildly inaccurate.
The Risale-i Nur frequently describes the universe as just such a “Mighty Book.” Every leaf on a tree, every star in the sky, and every cell in our bodies is a “word” written by the Pen of Power. These words point toward the Names and Attributes of the Creator, His Mercy, His Wisdom, His Power. However, human reason alone, while a powerful tool, is often insufficient to fully decode these spiritual meanings. We can see the “how” of nature through science, but we struggle with the “why” and the “who.”
This is why a “Teacher of the Book” is an absolute necessity. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) serves as the supreme instructor who stands before the library of the universe and reads its meanings aloud to humanity. Without his guidance, the sun might be seen as just a ball of gas, and the rain as merely a weather pattern. But with his teaching, the sun becomes a “lamp” in the guesthouse of the world, and the rain becomes “drops of mercy” sent from a Divine Treasury.
The Prophet does not bring a message that contradicts the universe; rather, he explains the universe’s true identity. He teaches us that we are not accidental travelers in a cold, indifferent cosmos, but honored guests of a Most Compassionate Host. By following the “Teacher,” the silence of the universe is broken, and every atom begins to speak of its Maker. As we conclude our Ramadan journey, we realize that the Qur’an and the Prophet are the keys that unlock the spiritual potential within ourselves and the world around us.
